Fail-Safe Design for Battery Energy Storage

A cornerstone of Viridi’s technology is our innovative fail-safe design, which isolates each cell to prevent failure from spreading to adjacent cells. UL Listing

UL Listing is a rigorous process that ensures our systems have been tested by UL to nationally recognized safety and sustainability standards. This certification provides our customers with the confidence that our products meet stringent safety requirements, making them reliable and trustworthy. The UL Listing process involves comprehensive testing and evaluation, which is crucial for maintaining high safety standards in our products.

Field Evaluation

Field Evaluation is another critical aspect of our safety protocol. This thorough inspection is conducted by a Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory (NRTL) to ensure that our systems meet specific standards. The evaluation checks compliance with safety standards, proper installation, and functionality, all without extended real-world use. This step is essential for verifying that our products operate safely and effectively in the field.

Individual Product Evaluation

Each of our products undergoes rigorous individual evaluations to ensure they meet specific safety standards. Below are details of the evaluations and certifications for the components that make up our key products:

rps150 BESS (Battery Energy Storage System)

  • UL 9540 / UL 1973: Our Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) was field-evaluated by TUV Rheinland for functional safety.
  • SPE-1000: The BESS was also field-evaluated by eSAFE to meet Canadian safety requirements.

rps50 BATTERY PACK

  • UL 9540A: This test evaluates the thermal runaway fire propagation in battery energy storage systems at both the cell and module levels.

Vcom EDGE DEVICE

  • UL 62368: UL Listed to the primary safety standard for consumer electronics, covering audio/video, information, and communication technology equipment.
  • UL 121201: UL Listed electrical equipment for use in hazardous locations.

INVERTER

  • UL 1741: UL Listed safety standard for inverter and power converter equipment used in renewable energy systems.

BMS (Battery Management System)

  • UL 991 / UL 1998: Evaluated to UL standards for hardware and software that perform safety-related functions.

CELL / MODULE

  • UN 38.3: Tested to ensure that the cell and module are safe for transportation.
  • UL 1642: Cells are listed to ensure they are safe to use.
  • UL 2580: Cells were listed and evaluated to electric vehicle standards for safety under simulated abuse conditions.
  • UL 9540A: Cell and module level test method for evaluating thermal runaway fire propagation in battery energy storage systems.
