Connect with our Energy Storage Team at RE+ 2023 Sept 11-14
The Middle Eastern and North African Regions face challenges such as capacity and efficiency in storing and managing the energy generated from vast renewable sources. Viridi will provide the necessary to address these challenges and to help the area achieve its renewable energy commitments. We are eager to lend our credibility and innovation to the region’s growing renewable energy sector.
As part of attracting foreign talent and investment, Saudi Arabia has restricted state entities from doing business with international companies that do not have their regional headquarters in the country by January 2024. The country aims to have 160 global companies run their Middle East operations from Saudi Arabia by the end of this year. The estimates for foreign direct investment into Saudi Arabia’s economy have been revised up to $33 billion last year, quadrupling the previous assessment of $8 billion.
Viridi recognized the urgency and has expanded its global presence through the launch of Viridi MENA. Our subsidiary, headquartered in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia, will work with partners in the region to manufacture and deploy Viridi’s unique fail-safe lithium-ion battery energy storage systems throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). Eng.Nabelah Al-Tunisi, a distinguished figure in the regional energy industry who is renowned for her previous role as Chief Engineer at Saudi Aramco, will lead Viridi MENA as company president.

During the Solar Energy KSA Event, our energy team had the opportunity to meet with His Excellency Minister Khalid A. Al-Falih, the minister of investment of Saudi Arabia. We engaged in a fruitful discussion about Vision2030 and explored potential collaboration to deliver transformative new power, unlock opportunities across sectors, and sustain the momentum of clean energy with fail-safe battery energy storage systems. Viridi’s CEO, Jon M. Williams, was among the expert speakers at the event and shared his perspective on “The Expressway to Saudi Vision 2030: Deployment of Fail-Safe, Resilient, and Scalable Energy Storage Systems.”
In an interview with Bloomberg Television, Khalid Al-Falih highlighted Saudi Arabia’s focus on the supply chain and expressed hopes that electric vehicle (EV) batteries will provide a significant manufacturing opportunity. Saudi Arabia aims to diversify its economy and develop a domestic auto industry, with a target of producing 500,000 electric vehicles by 2030. Viridi MENA, with its innovative energy storage platform, is an ideal partner for Saudi Arabia’s renewable energy ambitions.
