Fail-Safe Energy Storage:

No one wants the noise, fumes, and C02 emissions of diesel interrupting the atmosphere of a concert–so how do you power an event without diesel? Enter mobile Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

Challenge

The Energy Storage Business Unit of Timberline Consulting Group, sought an alternative to diesel generators—not only to deliver quieter power for a Western New York jazz festival, but also to reduce operating expenses. Traditional diesel generators used for mobile operations are often oversized for their loads, resulting in inefficient fuel consumption and maintenance issues caused by wet stacking. They turned to Viridi for three reasons:

Result

At the festival, equipment operators deployed Viridi’s RPS150 in Generator-Hybrid mode. The battery delivered quiet, emissions free power to its connected load during the afternoon and evening festivities.  During off-hours after the patrons had left, the battery auto started the generator to recharge, and about four hours later resumed powering the connected load. This hybrid operation is able to save between 50-80% of the fuel normally burned when a generator is the only power source for a mobile event, drastically cutting the emissions and operating expense for the equipment rentals provider.
