Challenge

In early 2023, a freight train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, led to a massive fire and the release of toxic chemicals into the environment. The incident contaminated the local water supply and posed significant health and environmental risks across a wide, rural area. Rapid, reliable energy solutions were urgently needed to support emergency response and ongoing remediation efforts.

The Solution

Sunbelt Rentals deployed SBR30-150 portable energy storage systems to power critical operations across the affected zone. The units supplied clean, reliable power for groundwater pumping stations, demolition and excavation equipment, and essential logistics and communications hubs. The rugged design and extended runtime of the SBR30-150 systems enabled continuous operation in demanding field conditions. As of December 2023—over six months after deployment—units remained actively in service, supporting long-term recovery efforts.
