Fail-Safe, Carbon-Free Mobile Charging

Designed to provide energy at the point of need, the RPS150 BESS, was the solution to power EV’s throughout the event.

Challenge

With its remote geography, rugged environment, elevation, and wide temperature fluctuations, Pikes Peak is a difficult place to provide resilient electricity. Thin air at higher altitudes means less oxygen for the combustion process in traditional vehicles, giving EVs a significant edge over their fossil-fuel powered competition.

The Solution

Through paralleling (a feature all Viridi BESS are capable of) 10 mobile RPS150 mobile energy storage units were combined to provide up to 1.5MWh of energy at 300kW continuous power.

The Result

Thanks to Viridi’s “fuel tank” for electric applications, it took just 20 minutes to replenish the electric car’s 50 kWh ultra high-performance cell battery before making a record-setting second hill climb.
